Event Description
Our popular "Wine Wednesday" online wine course visits the Alpine region of Europe for the first time. Wines produced in this area are usually consumed locally with relatively little exported so these are all unusual and rather special wines.
Wednesday 8th May - Austria
Eschewing the national grape of Austria - Grüner Veltliner, we look at two other varietals associated with Austria.
- Welschriesling KissKiss 2021 (white)
- St Laurent Trift 2012 (red)
Wednesday 15th May - Italy (Alto Adige/South Tyrol)
The Alpine regions of Italy have some unusual varietals that aren't associated with Italy.
- Cantina Kurtatsch Kellerei Muller-Thurgau 2021 (white)
- Cantina Kurtatsch Kellerei Sonntaler, Schiava/Grauvernatsch Alte Reben 2021 (red)
Wednesday 22nd May - Switzerland
Finally, we visit Switzerland for the first time. Although Switzerland produces a reasonable amount of wine, it exports very little, presumably because like everything else Swiss it is not cheap! This will be a voyage of discovery for me too as I've hardly ever sampled Swiss wine. We do of course include the classic Swiss variety of Chasselas.
- Domaine Maison Blanche, Chasselas, Mont-sur-Rolle Grand Cru, 2022 (white)
- Cave de la Cote Gamaret/Garanoir 2021 (red)
We have partnered with specialists Alpine Wines to supply the wines, all the above wines can be ordered directly from them at a discounted price of £140, by following this link.
NB: Delivery will take place c. 7 days before the first event i.e around 1st May
