Event Description
This tasting compares wines from different places using the same grape variety. In each case we will take a "Classic" French wine and compare it with the same grape variety grown in the "New World" (outside Europe).
This is a great way to explore how the climate and different winemaking approaches have produced such different wines from the same grape variety.
In some cases, perhaps the "New World" version is now more famous than the original French one? New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc and Argentinian Malbec come to mind.
We will compare at least three of the following pairs of wine:
- Sauvignon Blanc: Sancerre or Pouilly-Fumé (Loire Valley) vs Marlborough, New Zealand
- Chardonnay: Chablis AC or Macon Villages AC (Burgundy) vs California, USA
- Cabernet Sauvignon: Haut-Médoc AC (Bordeaux) vs Stellenbosch, South Africa
- Syrah/Shiraz: Crozes-Hermitage AC (Rhône) vs Barossa Valley, Australia
- Mabec: Cahors AC vs Mendoza, Argentina
- Merlot: Saint-Émilion AC (Bordeaux) vs Central Valley, Chile
- Pinot Noir: Santenay AC (Burgundy) vs Central Otago, New Zealand
