Event Description
This 4 week online course takes as its inspiration the Brasseries of Paris. Iconic, elegant and spacious eateries such as Brasseries Lipp, Flo and Bofinger and my personal favourites, La Couple and Le Train Bleu - with their Belle Époque or Art Deco interiors.
Originating from Alsatian breweries these historic restaurants offer a continuous service from morning until late at night typically serving a menu of traditional French cuisine with a good choice of classic French wines by the glass or carafe.
Although staples of the brasserie wine list some of these wines have fallen out of fashion in the UK only to become more recently trendy – I am thinking Beaujolais and Aligoté. Others have never really achieved the popularity in the UK that they enjoy in France, for example Tavel and Saumur Champigny. And of course there are wines that remain firm favourites on both sides of the English Channel – Bordeaux and Burgundy.
Our selection of 8 classic Brasserie wines is being supplied by VIN, Gateshead and subject to any last minute issues with availability, will line up as follows:
Week 1 – Trendy, racy whites
Domaine Félix, AOP Bourgogne Aligoté £16.00 and 'Le Moulin de Gué' Savennières, Domaine des Forges £22.00
Week 2 – Southern Rhone white and rose
