Discover Wine Series: Supermarket Sweep

New for 2027 and part of our Discover Wine series…Welcome to Supermarket Sweep. This evening is perfect for those starting out in their wine journey, however, more seasoned wine connoisseurs might also want to explore what their local supermarket has to offer.   

We understand how daunting the wine aisle can be and how this might mean that you always reach for the same old bottle of Chardonnay or Shiraz…we see you Yellow Tail. You are bombarded with terms like ‘Kabinett’, ‘appellation’ and ‘Crus’ but what do they mean and do you need to spend more to get a fabulous mouthful?

We will start the evening with a sparkling wine reception and during this evening we will help you to decipher wine labels and teach you some basic geography which will boost your wine buying confidence and ensure that you get bangers on a budget. All these facts and this knowledge will make you thirsty, so allow us to keep you well hydrated with topped up glasses of a range of delicious wines.

The Guardian wrote an article in 2022 entitled “Why wine lovers shop at discount supermarkets” and many whispers in the supermarket aisles can be heard celebrating the Germanic powerhouses of Lidl and Aldi. We will take a deep dive into bottles under £10 from the ‘Big 4’ UK supermarkets. Hopefully we can convince you that you need to part with £8.99 for that cheeky Chianti and reduced-price Reserva wine.
