The Loire Valley - The Loire is the 'garden of France,' slow rivers, green countryside and magnificent Châteaux once popular with holidaying French Royalty.
You could lose your head over the wines here too. From on-trend Muscadet on the Atlantic coast to the famous wine villages of Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé, home to some of the most delicious Sauvignon Blanc in the world. In the heart of the region you’ll find versatile Chenin Blanc, one of the wine world’s best kept secrets.
And the Loire is not all about white wine, be prepared to be impressed by the quality and value of red wines fashioned from Cabernet Franc.
Bordeaux - For centuries a global by-word for premium quality wine Bordeaux produces powerful red wines from Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. These are wines that can develop over decades and are amongst the most sought after and expensive wines in the world.
What makes these wines so special? The climate, the grapes, the skill of the wine makers or that mysterious French concept of “terroir”? In this tasting we’ll examine what makes good Bordeaux great.
We will taste wines from both “the left bank” and “right bank” of the Gironde estuary and consider why these wines are different. We'll introduce you to the Chateaux system and answer when is a chateau not a chateau?
We will also explain why reputation matters, why some vintages are amazing and others not so fabulous and what exactly is claret?
We’ll even show you how to do Bordeaux on a budget.
The South West - Heading South of Bordeaux you will find the home of Malbec and in the shadow of the Pyrenees, as the Mediterranean influence increases, a fascinating land of ancient vines and traditional country wines.
Hosted by your expert wine tutor this two hour tasting will include: at least seven carefully selected wines, full wine notes and accompanying French nibbles.
