Event Description

Why the world’s most dynamic wine country needs you.

South Africa wine industry in crisis

New wines, new wineries, highly qualified winemakers and new regions make the post-apartheid South African wine industry the most dynamic in the world. Today this exciting industry is under threat.

The domestic sale of alcohol is forbidden and wine exports have been banned in measures to combat the pandemic. The danger of unharvested grapes being left rotting on the vine has been avoided but many South African winemakers and their workers still fear for their livelihoods.

Our next series of online tastings supports South African winemakers and gives you the opportunity to taste top rated South African wines from the UK’s best South African wine specialist.

Museum Wines won the South Africa specialist award in the 2020 Decanter Retailer Awards. Praised for their carefully curated South African selection and proactive spirit. A spirit typified by a decision to pay producers early when the export ban hit, passing on savings to customers at the same time.

In four weeks of tutored online tastings you will enjoy eight carefully selected South African wines that represent the extraordinary diversity of South African wine;

·         Colmant, Brut Reserve, Franschhoek, NV - Pinot Noir and Chardonnay part fermented in French oak barrels and matured a minimum of 30 months in the only purpose built cellar for making sparkling wine in SA. Included in Robert Parker’s Top 100 Discoveries of 2020.

·         Org de Rac, Verdelho, Swartland, 2018 – aromatic and textured on trend variety from an emerging region

·         Brookdale Estate, Mason Road Chenin Blanc, Paarl, 2020 – remarkable value Chenin from a top estate.

·         Black Elephant, Rosé Rebel, Franschhoek, 2020 - Delicious, delicate, dry rosé

·         Natte Valleij, Cinsault, Darling, 2019 - highly rated by Tim Aitken (94/100) and Jancis Robinson (17.5/20)

·         Haut Espoir, Gentle Giant, Franschhoek, 2014 - Mature Bordeaux blend aged 44 months in French oak

·         Moreson, Pinotage, Stellenbosch, 2015 - Pinotage Cinsault blend with a little age from Pinotage specialists

·         Stark-Condé, Cabernet Sauvignon, Stellenbosch, 2018 - the very best Cabernet Sauvignon in South Africa according to Decanter and made by The Young Winemaker of The Year 2019.

This case of eight wines (individually priced between £13 and £25) has been discounted from £143 to £120 exclusively for this course.

The 4 week course costs only £60 with sessions recorded if you miss one. Just click below to book and I will reply with a link to purchase the wines. Numbers are restricted so book now to enjoy these exciting wines from an award winning merchant and do your bit to support the South African wine industry.
