Event Description
It's International Sherry Week! And you all know how much Laura and the team love Sherry. So here is a great chance to get involved and learn a little more about this spectacular and unique drink. Taste the 6 key styles and enjoy a small tapa with each one.
The Spanish word 'tapa' means 'to cover something', and its origin as a word to signify a bar snack goes back to an age old practice in Andalusia (the region that Sherry comes from). People would place a small piece of bread or cracker over the top of their glass of Sherry to stop flies diving in. Over time bartenders started placing bits of ham or cheese on this 'cover' to entice customers to stay for another drink. From this custom, we get the word Tapas!
Join us this evening to taste some delicious Sherry, learn about their fascinating method of production in the mysterious solera system, and enjoy a small nibble with every glass.
The nibbles will be true to the classic 'tapa' tradition rather than 'small plates'. To give you an idea of what to expect:
Manzanilla and Green Olives
Fino and Pickles
Amontillado with Dry Roasted Peanuts
Palo Cortado with Jamon Crips
Oloroso with Manchego
Cream with Chocolate Orange
If you love picky bits but haven't tried a glass of Sherry with your deli deal yet, this evening will open your eyes to a new level of grazing gastronomy!
