Event Description
Our online series continues as we explore the 'Queen' of France's wine regions: The Lovely Loire! Home of delicate and fragrant whites, but also one of the most diverse regions stylistically speaking, the Loire offers up a plethora of sweet, sparkling, dry, oaked and unoaked whites... there's a little something to tempt everyone. But it's not ALL white wine, those of us who love the illusive Cabernet Franc know that the Loire has some of the most flavourful and thirst-quenching expressions that this grape has to offer.
Wines to be tasted:
Chateau de la Bretesche Muscadet Sevre et Maine sur Lie 2019 (RRP £12)- A truly gastronomic expression of Muscadet and a jaw-droppingly great example of what value for money this region can produce.
Pithon-Paille 'Mozaik' Anjou Rouge 2018 (RRP £20)- Fascinating wine produced from Cabernet Franc grown on some of the best sites. Deep with savoury overtones of mushroom and five-spice married to lifted violet aromatics.
Domaine Sylvain Gautheron Vouvray Brut NV (RRP £23)- 100% Chenin Blanc in the form of a glorious baked apple-tinged dry fizz! Touches of honey, hay and shortbread abound... YUM!
Domaine Sylvain Gatheron Vouvray demi-sec 2015 (RRP £18)- 100% Chenin Blanc again, but this time with lemon, green apple, honey, hay, and a razor sharp acidity which cuts through the sweetness. Possibly the best wine in the world to pair with cheese...
Domaine Laporte Sancerre Rochoy and Comtesse 2018 (RRP £33 each)- The climax to our Loire adventure is a head to head comparison of two truly extraordinary single vineyard Sancerre. Each expressing their own terroir of first flint and then chalky marl to produce wildly different expressions of Sauvignon Blanc. Marvel at how different the wines are and yet how deeply delicious each is! A treat not to be missed by Sauvignon Blanc lovers.
