MEET THE WINEMAKER: Classic Bolgheri with Luca of Grattamacco

Founded in 1977 - with 34ha of vineyards - Grattamacco sits on 80ha of prime hillside in Bolgheri DOC, surrounded by forests and benefitting from ancient marine soils: white clay & limestone-marl Flysch at 100m and limestone-marl with quartz sandstone at 200m - the elegant minerality of the resulting wines is one of the hallmarks of winemaker, Luca Marrone's, winemaking style.

The estate was certified Organic ICEA in 1997 and produces around 200,000 bottles a year. Vineyards are planted to Vermentino for Bolgheri Bianco DOC and Sangiovese, Cabernets Sauvignon & Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot for Bolgheri Rosso and Superiore DOC plus Toscana IGT. The original owner, Piermario Meletti Cavallari, was the first to vinify Bolgheri Rosso in 1994 the year the DOC was approved, to believe in Vermentino and to enhance elevated vineyards and one of the few to maintain Sangiovese in the blend that gives life to Bolgheri Superiore.
In 1994, the authors of the regulations that initiated the enological history
of the denomination (including Piero & Lodovico Antinori and Mario Incisa della Rocchetta) gathered under the centuries-old oak tree of the
farmhouse at Grattamacco.

Luca will take us through the estate's top wines, including verticals of Bolgheri Vermentino and Bolgheri Rosso Superiore.

For this special online tasting, an exclusive tasting kit is included in the listed price which includes a 50ml tasting sample of each wine. Note: Tasting kits will be dispatched in the week leading up to the tasting. If orders are placed fewer than 5 working days before the event the kit may not arrive in time for the live class but the wines can be enjoyed with the event recording.
