Part One: Champagne & Sparkling Wines
Here we shall look at the various types of sparkling wine produced from two major methods (the traditional and tank methods) and match them with simple food. Of course we’ll taste Champagne, but we’ll compare an inexpensive (for Champagne) style against a vintage style. In addition we find very decent and affordable fizz in the new world which is extremely worth factoring in as a comparison. And what about English sparkling wine which is made exactly the same way as Champagne? Tank method sparklers include the underrated Asti and the ever-popular Prosecco - both worth investigating.
Part Two: Sweet Wines
Dessert wines are created from a myriad of various methods ultimately producing a complex range of styles. We’ll learn about the classic noble-rot style with plenty of examples to select from such as Sauternes, Chaume and the Hungarian regal classic, Tokaji. In addition we'll taste the full-bodied Port style and to cap it all off the ultra-sweet Sherry, Pedro-Ximenez, tasted then poured over vanilla ice-cream… delicious!
All tastings include: minimum of 6 wines sourced locally so you can find them easily if you like them; full tasting notes; tasting sheet; use of professional tastings glasses; a small selection of delicious cheese and charcuterie (with crackers) is served at this tasting.
We try to accommodate all dietary requirements, providing we are notified at least 48hrs in advance.
