Event Description
Exploring the world of fine wine is tricky if you have a sweet tooth, as the most familiar and “serious” wines aren’t necessarily sweet. Historically speaking, though, sweet wines were once the most coveted style of wine in all the world, enjoyed by Kings,, Emperors and Popes alike. No really, it’s true! Napoleon even demanded 2 drinks at his Court: Champagne .... and the infamous (and very sweet) Vin de Constance from South Africa!!!
To define dessert wine, it is any wine with a high level of residual sugar, making it noticeably sweeter than dry wine. There are 7 ways to produce a sweet wine and tonight you will taste some stunning combinations between sweet wines and food ... because sweet wines were NEVER EVER produced to be drunk on their own!
Sweet wines are the perfect way to polish off a meal though. We shall therefore have a beautiful range of sweet wines including classic Sauternes, off-dry Riesling, Late Harvest Gewurztraminer, and more unusual and intriguing wines such as Mavrodaphne di Patras and Coteau du Layon.
These 5 wines shall be paired with 7 types of foods, from pate, cheese, fruit tarts and chocolate ... to the delight of your tastebuds.
A tasting not to be missed if you like your food and wine on the sweeter side of life! ;-)
