Event Description
Celebrate World Albariño Day with us!
Albariño Day (originated from a friendly wine competition in Cambados, the ‘capital’ of Rías Baixas in 1953 to find the best Albariño. This soon led to a larger festival, the Fiesta del Albariño, which is now celebrated annually around August 1st. There are so many nowadays dreamt up by marketeers but this one really does have an authentic backstory.
Spain’s best place for white wines? There’s now more competition from other parts of the country for the title, but Rias Baixas is still holding its own, and the wines are getting better year by year. The Albariño grape thrives in the granite rich-soils in this green and pleasant part of the world. Galicia is often referred to as Green Spain, but with a range of wines on show, we will demonstrate the range of styles that Albariño can achieve, there’ll also be a chance to see how other varieties, red as well as white, perform here.
