Wines of Slovenia online tasting Part 2

Matija Žerjav - known as Matic to his friends - farms nine hectares of old, organic family vineyards in eastern Slovenia.

He makes wine in a cellar that dates back to 1852 and wants to respect tradition and nature as well as create something new and exciting. “We work only with what nature gives us,” says Matic, “so no chemicals in our wines.”

Discover a Riesling that Matic put into clay amphora - juice and skins together - for 200+ days just as the ancients did. The wine is bottled unfiltered, direct from the clay vessel to the bottle, and he calls it 'Get the party started.'

Matic also makes wine from Furmint (here called Sipon) and we'll try his unusual dry version and an ancestrale method sparkling wine he makes from it (where no two bottles come out quite the same way)!

HOW IT WORKS

You buy the wines separately and need only consume a tasting sample of each wine during the tutorial. You can follow our preservation tips to keep any leftovers for another day.
