After years of being overlooked, Vinho Verde is now mainstream and this Portuguese region is having its moment in the sun.
Naturally lower alcohol wines and excellent fruit quality hold the key to its new appeal. Around the world, an appetite is developing for this refreshing style of Atlantic wine.
Whereas old fashioned Vinho Verde from the 1970s used to be lean, thin and underripe, changes in vineyards and winery practices now produce riper yet still refreshing wines that are definitely hitting a sweet spot amongst consumers.
Whether you are looking for a new idea for an aperitif or something more serious and structured, you can find it in today's Vinho Verde.
We'll try a white wine made from Loureiro, an interesting sparkling wine made in the Ancestrale method and a rare red Vinho Verde.
HOW IT WORKS
You buy the wines separately and need only consume a tasting sample of each wine during the tutorial. You can follow our preservation tips to keep any leftovers for another day.
