Event Description
A fantastic opportunity to meet the winemakers from a highly regarded estate in Cahors and taste their best wine!
You may know Cahors in France to be an area specialising in wines made from Malbec (before that grape became internationally famous in Argentina).
For years Cahors was known as a 'black wine' referring to its inky-dark colour and high tannin. Improved vineyard techniques (helped by global warming) these days ensures Cahors wines generally taste riper with softer tannin, prompting more interest in recent decades to discover just how good Cahors wines can be. Join us to find out - we'll be tasting the top estate wine 'Le Cedre'.

Chateau du Cèdre is run by brothers Pascal and Jean-Marc Verhaeghe, both qualified oenologists, who trace the history of their domain back to their grandfather Léon. Leon left his native Flanders to settle in south-west France in the early 1900s.
Their father Charles and his wife Marie-Thérèse started a mixed farm on the property in 1958 and began planting a hectare of vines in three different plots each year.
Today the estate is 25-hectares of organically grown vineyards with quality being the watchword (the aim is to compete with New World Malbecs at their best).
We'll try a fresh white wine to start (a blend of Colombard and Ugni Blanc) and then the 'Heritage' red (95% Malbec and 5% Merlot) before jumping straight to the top wine 'Le Cedre' (100% Malbec).
Originally we were going to finish at the mid-priced estate red (£23.90), but there wasn't enough available stock. The importer decided to upgrade us to 'Le Cedre' at no extra charge (it sells at £47.99) so we are getting £31.50 discount overall (see below)!
Simply book your spaces and we'll send a link for ordering the wines. We will also send instructions for joining the Zoom calls from a desktop, laptop, tablet or mobile phone. Zoom is proving to be a very sociable medium for wine tasting so we can guarantee you'll have fun! Each session will last just over an hour.
