Event Description
Meet renowned Austrian winemaker Gernot Heinrich, learn more about Austrian wine and taste fascinating wines from his Neusiedlersee vineyards. The region has a centuries-old reputation being centred around Europe's largest closed lake.
Gernot Heinrich and his wife Heike are champions for 'natural' wine. They want to express what happens when a winemaker does as little as possible to interfere with nature.

Having vineyards on both sides of Lake Neusiedl (Europe's largest endorheic lake - water runs in but not out), the Heinrichs' work with some of the best microclimate Burgenland has to offer.
We'll taste their Zweigelt, their 'Naked White' and 'Naked Red'. After harvesting the white, for example, Gernot macerates the juice for 12 hours on the skins and stems before fermentation begins naturally with wild yeasts and malolactic fermentation also happens naturally. The lees are then left in the wine as it ages 14 months in large old oak casks and it is bottled unfined and unfiltered with minimal SO2.
The flavours in a wine like this will be distinctive and you will spot what critics call 'a lovely haze' in the glass. But the big different the Heinrichs are convinced you'll notice is there is more 'life' in the wine - a natural vibrancy.
Gernot is a founder of the influential Austrian natural wine movement, 'Respekt'. Come taste wine made from some unusual local grapes you may never have tried before and hear directly about his passion for transforming the approach to land and vine.
Simply book your spaces and we'll send a link for ordering the wines. We will also send instructions for joining the Zoom calls from a desktop, laptop, tablet or mobile phone.
