Marlborough is New Zealand's 'gold rush' wine area. When the world learned in the 1970s that its unique microclimate could make the most distinctive Sauvignon Blanc, thousands of farmers and winemakers flocked in to try their luck.
Nowadays the dust of that rapid expansion seems to have finally settled and a more mature Marlborough is emerging. Producers are experimenting with other grape varieties and making alternative wine styles.
Some even believe they can challenge the idea that central Otago wears the crown for New Zealand Pinot Noir. Better and more complex reds are emerging from Marlborough and we will have an opportunity to try a great example.
Mike and Claire Allan established Huia Vineyards in 1996 after time spent learning about winemaking at a variety of businesses including Cloudy Bay, Lawson's Dry Hills, Veuve Cliquot and Taittinger.
Their 9 hectares of vineyards are located in Rapaura, on what is known as the 'Golden Mile' close to the Wairau River. The vineyards are farmed organically and biodynamically believing that a natural approach in harmony with nature always works best.
Join us for a tasting that follows the Huia methods through 3 wines. We'll try their Sauvignon Blanc (65% fermented in neutral oak barrels), their organic Gruner Veltliner and their barnstorming Pinot Noir.
Book on this page for TWO people or more connecting to our online tasting using one video device. For ONE person please see here.
