Event Description
An evening of New World showstoppers. South Africa's unique contribution to the world of wine comes from its distinctive history and climate, while wines from the USA firmly rival the best made in Europe. Come and discover more.
South Africa has a long history of wine production going back 400 years. Since the abolition of apartheid the quality of its winemaking has risen dramatically.
Chunky, chocolatey reds and elegant whites are now the order of the day, served up by a precocious band of young, cutting edge winemakers.
The USA seems to offer two contradictory wine images. There is a sea of cheap branded wine sold by the container load in supermarkets, but there is also an exclusive and expensive world of boutique wineries.
We'll discover lovely examples drawn from among strawberry-scented Pinot Noir, red wine from the old vine Lodi region and creamy soft Chardonnay.
During the evening we will cover:
- understanding the influence of climate
- fascinating Pinotage grape variety
- the expensive taste of California
- gorgeous old vine wine
- emulating the Bordeaux blend
Our evening tastings include a minimum of 6 wines sourced locally so you can find them easily if you like them, full tasting notes, use of professional tasting glasses and a focus on food pairing.
