Attis is a winery owned by the Robustiano and Baldomer Fariña (pictured), brothers and third-generation grape growers in Rias Baixas.
The Farina brothers joined with French oenologist Jean-François Hebrard to launch some very exciting Rias Baixas wines including a range of Atlantic reds and single-vineyard Albarino aged on lees, in oak barrels and even under the sea.
The winery owns 12.3 acres of vineyards with vines from 5 to 40-years-old. Thanks to the expertise of Jean François, Attis is now considered a cult winemaker producing groundbreaking wines.
We will meet Jean-François, born in Bordeaux and raised by a wine-making family there. After making wine in top Bordeaux chateaux and consulting in other parts of France and Switzerland, he moved to Spain in 2001 initially becoming chief winemaker at Tinto Figuero in Ribera del Duero. His consulting expertise is now in high demand.
We will try a benchmark Albarino, a refreshing Godello and a limited edition Albarino aged in barrel and kept on lees. And we'll be asking Jean-François about his cult wines.
