Event Description
Join wine school founder, Jimmy Smith, as he hosts a spectacular tasting focusing on the truly exquisite wines of the state of Oregon - and taste some of his favourite wines from his recent trip there.
In August 2022 wine school founder Jimmy Smith travelled to the Pacific North-West of the United States to immerse himself in the truly exquisite wines of the state of Oregon. Oregon is an extraordinary place for wine; the grapegrowers and winemakers here continue to raise the bar through their commitment to sustainability, artisanal practises and making wines that stand amongst the world’s best. This was recognised as Oregon received 23% of the wines in the Wine Spectator’s Top 100 in 2021.
The state focusses on high-quality Pinot Noir, accounting for 6 out of 10 bottles produced. This is Oregon’s flagship variety, with elegant to fuller expressions being found but all achieving a level of quality that often gives them the moniker of ‘the next best thing after Burgundy.’ Jimmy has selected a range of wonderful Pinots including pioneers Elk Cove, The Eyrie and Sokol Blosser plus clonal-fanatics Patricia Green Cellars and Burgundy négociant Domaine Drouhin.
In addition Jimmy has sourced some superb white wines such as the Elk Cove Pinot Blanc (Alsace eat your heart out!) and two exceptionally elegant Burgundian-like Chardonnays from mover-and-shakers Evening Land and pioneering Adelsheim.
Jimmy will take you through the history of the region, and revel in telling your stories of his visits around this beautiful state.
