Event Description
There are no end of reasons to find Portuguese wine really exciting: wide ranging terroirs, including some of the most far flung and rugged island wines on earth, indigenous grape varietals that you often don’t find anywhere else, the list goes on.
Winemaker & consultant, António Maçanita, is making some of the most exciting wines from Portugal. His father was born in the Azores Islands and his mother in Alentejo, two regions that he now makes distinctive, world class wine in - with The Azores Wine Company and Fitapreta respectively. He also makes a great range of still red & white wines under the Maçanita label in the Douro Valley, better known for its Port production.
His latest project is one of the most exciting yet - Companhia dos Profetas e dos Villões (in English, The Company of Prophets and Villains) making still white, red & rosé wine on the tiny islands of Madeira & Porto Santo, off the North West Coast of Africa. The whites are powerful and saline, while the reds are light, pure and incredibly elegant. These are some of the most interesting wines being made anywhere in the world today.
We will be showing at least eight wines
two each from:
- Companhia dos Profetas e dos Villões (Madeira)
- The Azores Wine Company (Azores Islands)
- Fitapreta (Alentejo)
- Maçanita (Duoro)
