Event Description
Sangiovese is of course the superstar Tuscan grape variety, but it does have something of a chequered past that prevents it from being seen as the superstar variety that it potentially is.
Historically, Sangiovese was always blended with other local varieties, and that tradition still exists today. However, as the variety has become better understood and modern vineyard and winery know-how have been applied, many of the best wines are now exclusively Sangiovese.
Having recently spent 4 days visiting Tuscany and some amazing wineries, I'd love to share those experiences with you and feature some of the fantastic wines we sampled at iconic producers such as Isole e Olena, Brancaia, Fontodi, Poggio Antico and Canalicchio di Sopra.
Join us as we sample 8 iconic Tuscan wines based on Sangiovese, including:
- Chianti DOCG
- Chianti Classico DOCG
- Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG
- Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG
- Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG
- Rosso di Montalcino DOC
- Brunello di Montalcino DOCG
- Toscana IGT (Super-Tuscan)
Italian red wine, especially from tannic varieties like Sangiovese really needs some food to help it down, so we will have some Italian-inspired small plates from the St Vincent kitchen to do just that.
