
Course Description
Join us on a captivating 3-week journey into the 'Old World' of wine as we delve deep into the heart and soul of France, Italy, Spain and Portugal.
With a shared belief that wine is an expression of the place in which the grapes are grown we'll uncover the profound connection between a local environment and its wine.
But here's where the adventure truly begins, Each of these Old World wine nations boasts its own distinctive wine-making techniques and rich cultural influences. We'll explain the layers of history and tradition that define these extraordinary wine regions. With every sip of wine you'll taste years of tradition and terroir.
This course journeys through many of the world's classic regions including Bordeaux, Burgundy, Champagne, Rioja, Piedmont, and The Douro Valley to name but a few.
Course schedule: (3 x Tuesday Evenings)
- Tuesday 16th January; For many France is 'the home of wine'. On our very own Tour de France we'll explore the concept of terroir and why this makes French wine so unique and sought after.
- Tuesday 23rd January; A taste of Italy. Grapes are grown and wine is made all twenty of Italy's proudly independent regions. We'll explore how a focus on native grape varieties makes Italy unique in the word of wine and also show you how to pair food and wine.
- Tuesday 30th January; On the final week of the course we visit Spain and Portugal. We might just surprise you with a range of wines that showcase traditional regions like Rioja and the Douro Valley as well as exploring a more modern interpretation of Iberian wine.
Each evening of the course includes a tasting of six or seven specially selected wines plus water biscuits and a nibble of cheese and/or charcuterie chosen to pair with a couple of the wines.
