Event Description
Italy's unique combination of twenty fiercely independent regions and hundreds of native grape varieties make it one of the most exciting, enthralling and equally confusing wine nations on the planet.
On this evening tasting we'll help you navigate your way around Italian wine. Our journey starts in the two classic northern regions of Piemonte, famous for the mighty Nebbiolo grape and The Veneto, home of Prosecco, Pinot Grigio and Amarone.
Next stop, Tuscany in central Italy where we will pay our respect to Sangiovese, the main grape of Chianti, a wine made to go with food.
As you travel further south the climate gets hotter and we'll taste a wine made with the native Aglianico grape, known as the 'Barolo of the South'. Finally we'll explore sunny Sicily, famous for its warm hearted welcome and volcanic soils. We'll taste a wine that shows why the vineyards that hug the shoulders of Mount Etna are some of the hottest wine real estate in the world.
As we journey through Italy we'll explain which grapes are grown where and why. We'll also reveal how the unique combination of environment and local wine making techniques, such as drying grapes in the sun, influences the wine in your glass.
As we are in Italy, where wine and food are made to go together, we'll also explain how to create great food and wine pairings at home.
All of our themed evening tastings include a tasting of six or seven specially selected wines plus water biscuits and a nibble of cheese and/or charcuterie chosen to pair with a couple of the wines.
