Event Description
Wines from Spain come in a variety of styles that reflect the diversity of its different regions and grape varieties while in Portugal, famous for Port, it's modern-style still wines that are increasingly hitting the headlines.
On this evening tasting we'll explain the philosophy that drives winemaking in both countries and taste a range of wines that brings Spain and Portugal to life.
We start this tasting in Green Spain, the cool north-west where the local Albariño grape makes a refreshing, thirst-quenching white wine. Next stop is the traditional wine region of Rioja, famous for it's oak-aged red wines made (mainly) with the Tempranillo grape...but did you know that it makes world-class white and rosé wines too?
We'll then contrast a traditional style Rioja with a new-wave red wine coming from one of Spain's lesser-known but up-and-coming wine regions. Here, organic and sustainable grape growing show there's a bright future for Spanish wine.
A hop over the border into Portugal means we can show you a superb quality still wine that we think is one of the best value wines on the market today. We'll also tell you the story of Port, the world-famous fortified wine that remains as popular today as ever and enjoy a traditional style LBV Port.
All of our themed evening tastings include a tasting of six or seven specially selected wines plus water biscuits and a nibble of cheese and/or charcuterie chosen to pair with a couple of the wines.
