Event Description
Join us as we welcome Charles Back, visionary winemaker and owner at one of our favourite South African estates, Fairview. Charles was raised on this historic farm, and is now part of the history of winemaking which dates back to 1699. This visit should give you an incredible insight into the history of South African wine, and well as a shine a light on its exciting future.
Fairview Farm has produced some of Paarl's most iconic wines in the last 30 years, this of their benchmark Pinotage (used frequently here at YWS), their brilliantly quirky Goats do Roam Rhône blend, or their intense old vine Chenin.
But you might not be so familar with Charles' other projects. Starting with Spice Route, a brilliant range which has dabbled with exciting Mediterranean varieties such as Shiraz, Mouvedre and Carignan, which was initially started with the Webb family (many of you met Thomas from Thelema recently) and went on to make a name for a young up and coming winemaker, a certain Eben Sadie. This brilliant and idosyncratic range really shook up South African winemaking.
Come and taste these wines, plus learn about Charles's latest projects. It's going to be a delicious and fascinating tasting.
