Event Description
Albariño was the grape variety that showed that Spain could make great white wines in the modern style. Aromatic and with crisp acidity, with a mineral edge and a saline tang that speaks of its home on the coasts of Galicia, this is a grape variety that is so easy to love.
As its popularity has grown, producers have started to ask themselves what else they can do with Albariño. Can it age - either in barrel or in bottle? Can it be matured in oak? Some producers have even started aging their Albariños underwater! One thing is for certain, this grape has gone from obscurity to international superstar, and there are more exciting discoveries ahead!
1st August is International Albariño Day, and we're celebrating with an incredible lineup. We have 6 wines selected by the Rias Baixas Regulatory Council to show quality and diversity of the variety. Next, from Laura's fabled stash, a vertical tasting of the 2013, 2014 and 2015 Seleccion Añada by Pazo Señorans. This is the top aged style by one of the region's most historic and highest-quality producers, and the comparison is bound to be fascinating.
Finally we have a 2020 Fefiñanes 1583. This is one of the high points of Spanish Albariño - as complex as it is elegant, and sure to delight!
