Evan Byrne is a Piemonte-based wine expert. In addition to his own eponymous micro-negociant, Byrne Vini, he owns PiemonteMio.com, offering wine and food tours in his adopted home.
The lightbulb moment that led him into the world of wine occurred at university. Abandoning the world of design, he worked in wine shops, tasting anything and everything he could, and learning about how wine is made. Wanting to get his hands dirty and feel the grapes beneath his feet, he spent time in Australia, taking in harvest, wine retail and cellar door work.
In 2001, Evan went to Piemonte to work a harvest, and never really left, bar a brief stint back in the UK where he worked at Berry Bros & Rudd. He has now spent 20 years immersed in the wine, food and hospitality culture of the region.
