Event Description
Join wine school founder Jimmy Smith as he hosts Leo Meese online, from the pioneering Weingut Wittman of the Rheinhessen for a really special wine tasting. This evening will focus on several wines from the esteemed estate including representations of Riesling from various Grand Cru sites.
Weingut Wittmann stands as one of Germany’s most distinguished family-owned wine estates, rooted deeply in the viticultural traditions of the Rheinhessen region. It is located in the village of Westhofen which is an area known for its limestone-rich soils and gently rolling hills. The estate combines over three and a half centuries of history with a modern commitment to ecological stewardship and terroir-driven winemaking.
Founded in 1663, Weingut Wittmann has evolved through generations of the Wittmann family, each contributing to its transformation from a mixed agricultural farm into a benchmark producer of fine German wine. The estate began bottling its own wines in 1921, marking an important step toward quality-focused production and estate identity. Today, it is led by Philipp Wittmann alongside his parents, Günter and Elisabeth, continuing a lineage that now spans more than 15 generations.
Weingut Wittman have really put the hinterland village of Westhofen on the grapegrowing map, and it now rubs shoulders with the great villages of the Rheingau, Mosel, Pfalz and Nahe. They have elevated key individaul vineyards such as Aulerde, Kirchspiel, Morstein and Brunnenhäuschen to some of the most celebrated sites of Germany.
