Bordeaux Uncorked Part III: Right Bank – Merlot, Medieval Magic & Hidden Treasures

The Left Bank may have built Bordeaux's reputation, but the Right Bank has stolen plenty of hearts. Home to some of the world's most sought-after wines, this is a landscape of rolling hills, medieval villages, ancient churches and family-owned estates, where every bend in the road reveals another breathtaking vineyard. Overlooking the Dordogne River, the region is crowned by the spectacular UNESCO World Heritage town of Saint-Émilion, but beyond the famous names lies a fascinating patchwork of appellations waiting to be discovered.

This evening we'll journey across the entire Right Bank, from the iconic vineyards of Saint-Émilion and Pomerol to the characterful wines of Fronsac, Castillon, Lalande de Pomerol and the tiny, little-known gem of Sainte-Foy Côtes de Bordeaux—one of Bordeaux's best-kept secrets.

Here, Merlot reigns supreme. Discover why limestone, clay and gravel create wines that are silky, generous and irresistibly approachable, yet capable of extraordinary complexity and age. We'll explore how tiny changes in soil—even within a single vineyard—can transform the style of a wine, and why terroir matters nowhere more than on the Right Bank. 

But there's much more than famous reds. We'll venture into the beautiful Entre-deux-Mers, the land between the Garonne and Dordogne rivers. Here, lush forests, winding rivers and picturesque villages surround vineyards producing vibrant, refreshing white wines. You'll discover why every wine is a carefully crafted blend, how Atlantic influences shape the vineyards, and why nearly all of the region is now farmed under environmental certification.
