Event Description
We have a rather wonderful evening hosted by owner Andrea Cecchi of Cecchi wine estate in Tuscany, Italy. Andrea Cecchi will introduce the different regions of Tuscany and their wines, and show you the sometimes subtle differences which soil, climate and winemaking can bring to the grapes of this famous wine region. Wines on tasting (TEN in total) listed below.
Cecchi
Established in 1893 in Poggibonsi, in the Siena province, Cecchi is today one of Italy's most successful family-owned, independent wineries. Today Andrea Cecchi is the fourth generation of the family to run the estates. Headquartered in Castellina in Chianti in the historic heart of the region, Cecchi also have estates and vineyards in San Gimignano, home to the famous Vernaccia grape, in Val delle Rose near the Tuscan coast, and at Montefalco in Umbria just over the border, from where they produce the legendary Sagrantino wine.
These estates provide a whistle-stop tour of the region's highlights, with most of the reds based on Tuscany's own Sangiovese grape, but always with a very local interpretation, and whites from Vernaccia and Vermentino, which is another grape that loves the sunshine.
