Event Description
Jura is cool climate region located between Burgundy and Switzerland. Its most famous wine is Vin Jaune, which is made from the local Savagnin grape and which develops under a flor-like strain of yeast. We might taste a red-fruited Poulsard or a complex Jura Chardonnay, and perhaps a sparkling Crémant du Jura whilst learning more about this flourishing region.
Popping over the border to Switzerland, the two most common varieties grown are Pinot Noir and the white grape Chasselas - we'll taste at least one of these. We'll also explore the French Alpine Savoie region, and discover which wines work best with dishes such as fondue and raclette.
Moving to South-West France, we'll explore Cahors, Madiran and Jurançon and the signature grape varieties of these regions. We'll taste a dark, black-fruited Cahors Malbec, and a Madiran red made with Tannat grapes. In Jurançon, the grape varieties are Gros Manseng (dry) and Petit Manseng (sweet). We might finish up with the Madiran sweet wine from tongue-twisting appellation Pacherenc du Vic-Bilh!
