Event Description
Grapes have been grown for wine since around 6000 BC in both Georgia and Lebanon. The Kakheti region of south-east Georgia produces aromatic white wines from Rkatsiteli and bold reds from Saperavi. And then there are the orange or amber wines made in traditional earthenware qvevri. Lebanon's Bekaa Valley is known for full-bodied reds especially Cabernet Sauvignon blends.
Chinese wines are rapidly evolving, moving beyond bulk production to higher quality, especially from regions like Ningxia and Xinjiang. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Chardonnay lead the way, but there is also a significant local variety, Cabernet Gernischt.
Brazil, Uruguay, and Mexico are emerging wine regions, with Uruguay famous for Tannat and Albariño, Brazil known for Tannat, Merlot and sparkling wines, and Mexico's Baja California region making whites from Chenin Blanc and Semillon, and reds from Cabernet Sauvignon, Nebbiolo and Syrah. We'll taste a few unique styles from these Latin American countries.
