Event Description

Join us for a fun wine tasting day (11am to 4pm) including a delicious two-course lunch starting with a glass of Cap Classique, South African's answer to Champagne. Our Saturday courses are relaxed and informal experiences suitable for anybody from beginners to enthusiasts.

Join us for a great wine experience in Southbourne (11am-4pm) beginning with Fizz, trying a wide variety of New World wines, discovering new favourites and with 2-course lunch included.  These days are suitable for all. Whether you have never been to a wine tasting before or are an experienced taster, there is something for everyone.

Saturday courses all include:

  • 12 wines sampled and explained
  • delicious 2 course lunch (all diets catered for - just let us know)

The day starts with a glass of Fizz as we chat about how to get bubbles into wine and continues through a series of white and red wines. The day includes a delicious two course lunch prepared in the Michelin listed kitchen of Roots.

New World sparkling wine – learn how regions like South Africa, Australia and California have developed their own styles of sparkling wine inspired by Champagne.
Introduction to the major New World wine regions – Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Chile, Argentina and the USA.
Learn how the diverse climates and landscapes of the New World shape its wines.
Major red grape varieties – Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Shiraz/Syrah, Malbec, Zinfandel and other famous grapes to look out for.
Major white grape varieties – Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Viognier, Riesling and others!
How wine is made – grapes, fermentation, ageing.
How to taste wines – aroma, taste and describing wines.
Recognising elements of wine – tannin, acidity, oak.
Tutored tasting of 12 wines.
The effect of climate on the taste of wine.
Which wines to buy / where to obtain the best value for money / storing & serving wine / understanding wine labels.
Food & Wine matching – tips & advice – with practical tastings.
