Event Description
We're excited to to bring you an opportunity to discover the diverse wines of the Thracian Lowlands PGI, in collaboration with Westbury Communications Ltd, assisting the Bulgarian Wine Export Association led by the Baltic Gastronomy Leaders.
We'll be tasting a selection of wines from the this Bulgarian region, including some indigenous grapes, such as Mavrud, Rubin, & Pamid, as well as some of the familiar international varieties.
The Thracians are an ethno-cultural community who settled on the Balkan Peninsula - the lands of present-day Bulgaria and parts of Greece, Serbia, Northern Macedonia and European Turkey – 6000 years ago. The Thracians worshiped Dionysus - the god of grapes and wine. Wine became symbolic of the rebirth and immortality of the human soul, in which the ancient Thracians unconditionally believed. These beliefs inspired the Thracians and are the root of modern day wine estates and their heritage.
