Event Description
We kick off our “World of Wine Grapes” course (see HERE for more details) with two of the most hedonistic grapes around.
Viognier (pronounced ‘Vee-on-yay’) was in danger of becoming extinct in the 1960s, but thankfully it has been resurrected and is now spreading its voluptuous and aromatic charms around the world. How do examples from its northern Rhône home compare with versions from Australia and Chile? This is your chance to find out.
Pinot Noir has been described as ‘the heartache grape’. At its best, it seduces you with vibrant fruit, heady perfume and feral charms. But tracking down such wines isn’t always easy: we’ll see whether Burgundy, New Zealand and California can conjure up the magic.
The tasting will include some cheese and crackers to compliment the wines and will include three examples each of a white grape and a red one, with the aim of demonstrating how the same basic raw material can be moulded in different ways, according to the place where the grapes grow and the desires of the winemakers.
