Event Description
This session of our “World of Wine Grapes” course (see HERE for more details) takes a look at the maligned and the misunderstood…
Don’t let that description put you off – this is going to be a cracking tasting! On the Chardonnay side we’ll be trying two excellent white Burgundies alongside a New World example that is a league away from the overripe, overoaked examples of yesteryear.
As for Nebbiolo, it’s a grape that combines flavour and aroma with an often-stern backbone of tannin and acidity. We’ll compare two wines from its home turf of Piedmont, home of Barolo and Barbaresco, with a version from Down Under to see whether its accent is more Australian than Italian.
The tasting will include some cheese and crackers to compliment the wines and will include three examples each of a white grape and a red one, with the aim of demonstrating how the same basic raw material can be moulded in different ways, according to the place where the grapes grow and the desires of the winemakers.
