Event Description
This session of our “World of Wine Grapes” course (see HERE for more details) takes at arguably the world’s sleekest grape, and the most widely-planted grape in the world’s most famous wine region.
Is Sauvignon Blanc a victim of its own popularity? If you stick to the cheap stuff, then yes, but we’ll be trying a wine from its home in France’s Loire Valley with examples from New Zealand and elsewhere that should demonstrate its true class.
As for Sangiovese, its performance in its Tuscan home with wines such as Chianti Classico and Brunello di Montalcino shows that it deserves a place at the top table of red grapes. And how does it fare elsewhere in the world? You’ll find out in this tasting…
The tasting will include some cheese and crackers to compliment the wines and will include three examples each of a white grape and a red one, with the aim of demonstrating how the same basic raw material can be moulded in different ways, according to the place where the grapes grow and the desires of the winemakers.
