Event Description
While Slovenia may not be a place at the forefront of wine drinkers’ minds, wine has been produced here since before Roman times. It’s also home to the world’s oldest grape vine, which was planted over 400 years ago! Since the break-up of the former Yugoslavia, the country’s wine industry has blossomed, so we’re thrilled to be able to put on our first ever tasting of Slovenian wines.
We’re being joined for it by Andrew Walker of Solaris Wines, one of the few companies in the UK that specialises in Slovenian wines. He’ll be talking about the country and its history, and leading us through a tasting of eight wines (average price ~£20) from three top wineries, Stokelj, Fedora and Tilia Estate. You’ll have the chance to sample grapes that are familiar (Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon) and not-so-familiar (Zelen, Pinela), along with others that you’ll come across on the opposite side of the border with Italy (Barbera, Ribolla Gialla).
Thanks to Andrew’s generosity, we’re able to offer this tasting of eight wines for just £40. Do join us for an exploration of this fascinating country and its equally fascinating wines.
