Event Description
We’re thrilled to be able to put on our first premium Burgundy dinner, in conjunction with the Burgundy Wine Club, one of the UK’s top specialists in the wines of this famous region. Those of you who attended our Old Vine Masterclass last year will remember the delicious Coteaux Bourguignons blend of Pinot Noir and Gamay from Domaine Modot-Guyon which was voted one of the two top wines of the evening.
The focus on this occasion (we’re already planning others for the future) will be white Burgundy, and we’ll be joined by Ben Ramsden from the Burgundy Wine Club who will provide background on the wines and their producers (read more about each of these top domaines by clicking the links below).
The evening will begin with a tasting on five wines from various parts of the region:-
Famille Messager-Germain Bourgogne Chardonnay 2023 (rrp £43)
Jeremy Arnaud Chablis Premier Cru Vau de Vey ‘La Grande Chaume’ 2022 (magnum £112)
Ex Nihilo Hautes-Côtes de Nuits, Le Mont 2024 (£54)
Pierre Mayeul Puligny Montrachet 2022 (£96)
Domaine Philippe Chavy Meursault 1er cru ‘Les Charmes’ 2021 (£140)
This will then be followed by a three-course dinner, with the first two courses accompanied by two pairs of wines, in each case with a Burgundy alongside a similarly-priced wine from New Zealand.
First course:
Domaine Modot-Guyon Bourgogne Chardonnay 2023 (£25)
Kumeu River Estate Chardonnay 2021, Auckland
Second course:
Pierrick Bouley Bourgogne Côte d'Or Pinot Noir 2021 (£37)
Prophets Rock Sophora Pinot Noir 2022, Central Otago
It’s a stunning array of wines, accompanied by food from the Black Friar which The Guardian’s Jay Rayner described as “Big, Bullish & Beautiful.” And thanks to Ben’s generosity, we’re able to offer it at a price of £150 per person, which those who have examined the prices of fine Burgundy in restaurants will tell you is a bargain. We look forward to welcoming you for what should be a truly memorable evening.
