Course Description
“I don’t know much about wine…but I know what I like…”
After hearing this line for the zillionth time, Manchester Wine School owner Simon Woods decided it was time to do something about it. So he wrote a book with that title. It went down pretty well too, being voted Wine Book of the Year at the Prix Du Champagne Lanson Wine Awards in competition with volumes from such luminaries as Hugh Johnson, Oz Clarke and others.
And having heard the line several more times since taking over MWS in 2018, Simon’s decided it’s time to put together a mini-course looking at what it is that people just getting into wine REALLY want to know. Over the three sessions, you’ll find out…
- …how to taste wine
- …where’s the best place to buy wine
- …which countries/regions offer the best (and worst) value
- …how to serve and store wine
- …how wine is made
- …how special those ‘special’ offers really are
- …how and why classic food & wine pairings work
- …why some wines cost more than others
- …what are the best wines to buy for presents
- …how to decipher a wine label
- …and more
In each session, there’ll be two red wines, two whites plus two ‘others’ – sparkling in Week 1, rosé in Week 2 and fortified in Week 3. The idea is for you to be able to do some ‘comparing and contrasting’ and in the process discover a little about how and why wines taste the way they do.
While the course won’t make you a Master of Wine – that takes several years of study – it will give you more confidence in choosing wines in shops and restaurants, and serving wines to your friends and family.
The price for the three sessions of £100 includes samples of a minimum of 18 wines AND a signed copy of the latest edition of Simon’s book “I Don’t Know Much About Wine But I Know What I Like”.
Weekly over 3 weeks on Friday 25th Jan, 1st and 8th Feb. And if you can't make all three session, you can book them individually at £35 each - Week 1, Week 2, Week 3
