Chardonnay is native to eastern France and is the grape behind the famous red 1er Cru and Grand Cru wines of the Cote de Beaune in Burgundy. Meursault and Puligny Montrachet for example.

World class Chardonnay wines are also made in cooler wine regions as geographically diverse as California, Chile, South Africa, New Zealand, Argentina and Australia.

The best Chardonnay wines have a layered complexity to them, often as a result of winemaking techniques like lees ageing and barrel fermentation. They also reflect their specific growing sites well. It's all about balance. Wine drinkers are quite rightly falling back in love with Chardonnay. It is a versatile grape capable of greatness and able to give a lot of pleasure.
