Event Description
Its capital, Beirut, attracted so many tourists that it was known as "the Paris of the Middle East"
Wine has been made in Lebanon for at least 5,000 years since the Phoenicians domesticated grapes. Lebanon was, of course, part of the biblical land of Canaan. Jesus changed water into wine there at the wedding of Cana. The term 'wine' is derived from a Phoenician word describing the fermentation of grapes
All this changed with the brutal civil war from 1975-1990. With shells passing overhead the winemakers of the Bekaa Valley continued to cultivate and harvest their vines
In this evening we will discover some of the turbulent history of this enigmatic country and taste some of its fantastic yet little known wines including the world-beating Chateau Musar.
We will taste a total of six wines
If ever there was a way to uncover the culture and history of a country through its wine, then this is it
