Event Description
Australia and New Zealand makes some of today's most popular styles of wine. Discover what makes them so good and what else these fascinating winemaking countries have to offer.
It takes five hours to fly from Sydney on Australia's East Coast to Perth on its West, so it shouldn't come as a surprise that there's a huge range of styles of wine Down Under. Reds range from bold, chocolatey Shiraz in the Barossa Valley to refined, elegant Cabernets in Margaret River to delicate, fragrant Pinot Noirs of Mornington Peninsula and Tasmania. With whites, there's plenty of Chardonnay - and those who remember the oaky fruit bombs of the past should really take another look - but there are also regional classics such as tense, tangy Semillon from the Hunter Valley and the deliciously crisp, dry Rieslings of the Clare and Eden Valleys.
There's almost as much diversity in New Zealand. The country's calling card is Sauvignon Blanc, but there's so much more, such as Pinot Noir from Martinborough and Central Otago, Bordeaux-inspired blends from Hawke's Bay (excellent Syrah too) and delicious Chardonnay everywhere from Auckland in the north to Central Otago in the south.
Join us for this great value tasting - it's just £35 - as we try at least 6 wines with some cheese to nibble on in between.
