Event Description
From Bordeaux to Bourgogne, Champagne to California, climate change is no longer a whisper. The established wine world we all know and love is changing, with ways of future-proofing hot on the agenda.
PIWIs - a brand of crossbred grape varieties - are one solution getting air-time. But do you know what they are or where they came from? No, these are not Frankenstein varieties but they are starting to occupy shelf space in your local supermarkets. Varieties like Cabernet Blanc, Floreal, Solaris, or Regent are all looking to become household names.
As consumers, we have little knowledge of how growers protect from climate chaos or producers combat lost acidity. So whether you want to geek out on the science, see what the hype is all about, or simply sample the wine world’s new kids on the block, this PIWI tasting is for you.
Our wines will reflect what is available at the time of the tasting but we have previously shown the following:
Sparkling or still Solaris (Welsh option)
Floreal (hot climate option)
Cabernet Blanc vs Sauvignon Blanc (pyrazines)
Hibernal vs Riesling (acidity profiles)
Regent (oak and winemaking need to combat off aromas).
Souvignier Gris Auslese (complex style)
