Event Description
Attis - Atlantic wines from Galicia
Wine school founder Jimmy Smith recently visited Rias Baixas in Galicia (north-west Spain) in September 2024 and June 2025 and was blown away by the quality of one newer producer, Attis. He was so impressed that he has convinced the Attis team to host an exclusive tasting with West London Wine School showcasing the excellent diversity that they offer. Obviously Albariño is a focus, but the winery is well known for crafting exceptional wines from most of the indigenous varieties of the region.
Nestled in the Val do Salnés region of Galicia, Spain, Bodegas y Viñedos Attis is a family-run winery distinguished by its deep sense of place and artisanal craftsmanship. Founded in 2000 by brothers Robustiano and Baldomero Fariña, the project evolved from selling grapes to crafting their own wines, building on three generations of viticultural know-how, In 2011, they further refined their vision by establishing a modern winery and enlisting the expertise of French oenologist Jean-François Hébrard. Under Hébrard’s guidance, Attis embraced organic viticulture and a minimalist cellar philosophy—promoting spontaneous fermentations, lees aging, maceration on skins and reduced sulfur usage. Located in a subterranean facility carved from granite, their winemaking space benefits from naturally constant temperatures, paired with advanced technology for fermentation, filtration, and bottling. Their vineyards span approximately 5 hectares of small plots between 100 and 400 meters in altitude, planted on loamy-sandy, well-drained soils rich in stones. The Atlantic-influenced climate, with mild temperatures, abundant rainfall, and dry summers, lends itself perfectly to Albariño and several indigenous red varieties like Caiño, Espadeiro, Sousón, and Pedral. If you really want to get-to-grips with the nuances of these rare local varieties, this is a spectacular tasting to do so.
Attis is committed to producing authentic, Atlantic-infused, artisanal wines that articulate the terroir and varietal character with utmost clarity and respect. Their expression is a reflection of tradition, patience, and the vibrancy of their environment.
