A night of simply brilliant Barbaresco and some other Piemontese treats! Join Laura back on Zoom for a taste along at home which features 3 single vineyard Barbaresco and a super rare bottling of unique variety Timorasso. Italian delights await!

Kick off the holiday week in style with a stunning lineup of some of the finest Nebbiolo which Laura tasted on her recent trip to Piemonte. La Spinetta has fast become a YWS fave, their very modern and decadent Barbaresco put them on the map. They have followed up their prized Nebbiolo with diversification into white varieties from the international Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay, all the way through to the 'rescued from extinction' rariety which is Timorasso. With such a stunning portfolio of different wines, it was hard to pick our 6 favourites, but as ever we were game for the challenge!

Up first we will look at the whites and also touch upon a beautiful Monferrato Rosso... 

The lineup looks like this-

• Langhe Bianco Sauvignon Blanc 2017 (RRP £46)- not just any old Sauvignon! Expect lively citrus notes and bracing acidity alongside signature wet stone minerality, balanced against the ripe succulent flavour of peach and necatrine. Riper than France, but more elegant than NZ, this Sauvignon is unique and truly delicious. 
• Colli Tortonesi Timorasso 2020 (RRP £26)- almost confined to the history books in the 1980s, Timorasso was saved, almost single-handedly, by Walter Massa. Today more and more producers are discovering the structure, body and sheer intensity of this long-lived variety. Fleshy and textured, it's a gastronomical joy!
• Pin Monferrato Rosso 2017 (RRP £47)- A tribute to the Father of La Spinetta, this is a perfectly pitched blend of Nebbiolo and Barbera (from the stellar Gallina vineyard) where the delicate red fruit and violet nestle alongside quintessential 'roses and tar', robust and complex with stunning length and concentration. 

And then we'll savour those stunning Barbaresco...

• Barbaresco Vigna Gallina 2017 (RRP £130)- A Barbaresco all about texture- smooth, velvet like tannins- slinky and silky. The use of small French oak barrels is prominent, giving the wine a rounded and generous mouthfeel, but doesn't mask the beautiful violet and rose florality. 
• Barbaresco Vigneto Starderi 2015 (RRP £110)- As captivating in its youth as it is with age, Starderi is situated just behind Gallina with a moderating influence thanks to its location directly above the Tanaro River. Lush, juicy, plum filled and generously oaked, this is a blockbuster which projects energy and vitality in the glass!
• Barbaresco Vigneto Valeirano 2017 (RRP £130)- Supreme Barbaresco which has distinct echoes of Barolo; deep black fruit, dense tar-like complexity, savoury iron notes of game and truffle. You'll be tasting this wine for hours such is the depth and complexity- time to break out the wild boar ragu!
