If you are a fanatic about gorgeous Northern Rhone Syrah then this is a tasting to tickle your taste buds.

For a very special evening we welcome Greg Harrington who is the founder of the superb Gramercy Cellars from Washington State. Jimmy Smith and Greg will guide us through a wonderful evening showcasing the beauty of this wonderful producer and how they align very much to the Northern Rhone style. All the wines range from £25 to £75 per bottle, so this is a focus on the premium fine wine of North America.

Gramercy Cellars, Washington State

Founded in 2005 by Greg Harrington and his wife Pam, Gramercy Cellars (based in Washington, USA) has very strong influences from Bordeaux and the Rhône in both their approach to wine making and the varietals used. The idea behind Gramercy was to create a winery that was ‘focused on quality, integrity, and sustainability.’

Greg Harrington was named ‘Best New Winemaker in Washington’ by Seattle Magazine in 2008 with Gramercy taking the title of ‘Best New Winery.’Gramercy has also won a number of other awards including ‘Best New Winery in America’ by Food & Wine Magazine in 2010 and has been listed by Wine & Spirits Magazine as one of the “Top 100 Wineries in the World” in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013.

Gramercy Cellars now makes around 8000 cases/year and works almost exclusively with Rhone and Bordeaux varieties which Greg finds to be most suitable for the terroirs of Walla Walla as well as the greater Columbia Valley Appellation.

The wine-making philosophy is simple: work with top vineyard sites, harvest the fruit when it’s in balance and not overripe, intervene minimally, and use as little new oak as possible. The resulting wines are restrained, balanced, and complex. They age well but also possess enough fruit to be rewarding when young. Gramercy Cellars was founded in the hope of capturing what first caught Greg’s attention: the distinctive voice of Washington wines, and with each vintage he further proves that it has been a success.

Tasting Date: Tuesday 30th November 2021 at 7:00pm (the tasting will last approximately 2 hours).
