Event Description
White wines provide such an array of flavours that it can be difficult to know where to start and it is all too easy to stick with what we know. In this relaxed tour we will discover some of the main white wine grapes and the differences between them, and what the winemaker does that makes a wine taste different.
We will taste a minimum of six wines including a Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Riesling that will dispel some of the stereotypes; not all Sauvignon Blanc is as grassy and herbal as New Zealand, subtle oak can make some of the best white wines in the world from Chardonnay, and Riesling is not the sweet wine of years gone by.
By the end of the evening you will have learnt:
- The main white grape varieties
- How white wine is made and how the decisions that the wine maker takes affect the final wine
- How white wine can pair with food
All tastings include: a minimum of 6 wines sourced locally so you can find them easily if you like them, full tasting notes, use of professional tasting glasses and some food pairing using nibbles.
(Note, this evening is part of our 3 week Introduction to Wine Course. Book all three and save £15).
All our courses can be purchased as a Gift either as a dated or undated voucher.
