ONLINE TASTING: Jimmy's Best of Rioja - Traditional Wines

This tasting will be hosted by our sister school West London Wine so please expect all correspondence to come from them

Within Rioja there are some traditional bodegas (wineries) that have produced wine through the generations and typically craft their product in a more rustic and old-school expression. These estates emerged in the 19^th century to supply France which was in the full phylloxera pandemic and therefore had a dramatic reduction on wine production.

Many of these estates were established in the train station district of Haro allowing ease of export transportation on the newly-founded rail networks. Examples of these bodegas include CVNE, Lopez de Heredia (Viña Tondonia), Muga, Gómez Cruzado and La Rioja Alta. Often their pinnacle wines are Gran Reservas with extensive ageing in American and French oak.

Jimmy will show a host of superb wines spanning over twenty years of ageing including exceptional vintages such as 2001, 2005, 2007 and 2011 as well as a few younger expressions.

For this special two-hour tasting, an exclusive tasting kit is included in the listed price which includes a 50ml tasting sample of each wine. Note: Tasting kits will be despatched to attendees within the week leading up to the tasting.

TASTING FORMAT:

Jimmy Smith will host this exclusive tasting live at 7:30pm on Thursday 2nd March 2023. This single-evening tasting will be approximately 1.5 - 2 hours in length.

No problem! Anyone registered for this tasting will gain access to the video recording of the live event, so you can always revisit any of these at anytime in the future - whether its because you missed participating in the live evening or if you want to revisit the presentation at a later date.
